Every idea I have ever had died in the same place: a registrar's search box at eleven at night, typing the fourteenth variation of a word I had already stopped liking. Everything good is gone. Everything available sounds like a password.
The annoying part is that naming and checking are two different jobs, and doing them together is what makes it miserable. You think of one name, you check one name, you feel slightly worse, you think of another.
Generate hundreds of names at once without judging them, then check all of them at once without inventing any. Two passes, neither contaminating the other. The rest of the decisions followed from that.

Every name is written by Apple Intelligence's on-device model, and the prompt never leaves the handset. There is no keyword fallback: on a device that can't run the model the app says so, rather than shipping worse names under the same name.

Three ideas, and what a sweep actually returns for each. These are real registry answers, checked on 31 August 2026 — not mock-ups.
Finding an unregistered domain is the easy half. The hard half is knowing whether the name is safe to build a business on — what it means somewhere you don't speak, what it sounds like out loud, whether anyone can spell it back to you. That runs entirely on the handset.
And when a question genuinely needs the live web — who is trading under a name right now, whether a mark is registered — the model is built to say so and hand you the search, rather than inventing an answer. It knows the shape of what it cannot know.

Write candidate names against that brief: real roots, sensible coinages, compounds that survive being said out loud. Not a vowel removed from a dictionary word.

Domain Seek is an argument that a useful AI product doesn't need a backend behind it. There is no inference API, no user database, and nothing to bill — which is why it can be free without a catch, and why it works on a plane.
Apple's on-device model does the writing, driven by structured generation — @Generable types with @Guide constraints — so the model returns typed values the app can rely on rather than prose it has to parse.
Every fact is owned by code, never the model: availability, pricing, App Store collisions, dictionary and diversity constraints. The model is trusted to be imaginative and trusted with nothing else.
An earlier combinatorial engine produced mechanical debris — domios, resios, mengame. Shipping that to a device that can't run the model would be shipping a worse product under the same name, so the app says plainly that it can't run instead.
The advisor's schema includes a flag for “this needs live web data I cannot reach”. When it fires, the app hands you a search query and a research prompt rather than letting the model guess at who owns a trademark.
Domain status comes from the registries' own RDAP endpoints, resolved through IANA's bootstrap registry and queried in parallel, with a redirector as fallback. No scraping, no third-party availability API, no heuristics.
Ideas, sweeps and shortlists live in an on-device store with iCloud sync explicitly disabled. The one CloudKit call in the app is a read of a public record for the promo card — nothing of yours is ever written anywhere.
Long sweeps and watchlist re-checks run as background tasks and report back with a local notification. No push server involved, because there is no server.
No analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier, no ATT prompt. The privacy manifest declares no collected data types and no tracking, which is a claim the App Store checks.
